This role involves creating high-performance, precision control software for metrology and defect inspection tools used in semiconductor fabrication environments., * Design, develop, and maintain software for AFM-based semiconductor inspection systems using C# and .NET technologies.
- Implement real-time control for AFM scanning , nanometer-level positioning , and feedback loops .
- Develop HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications for operator dashboards and inspection workflows.
- Integrate software with motion controllers , piezo actuators , and high-resolution sensors .
- Optimize system performance for high-precision scanning , image processing , and data analysis .
- Ensure compliance with cleanroom standards , safety protocols , and semiconductor industry certifications.
- Collaborate with hardware, optics, and applications teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation to meet ISO , IEC , and semiconductor inspection standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architectural decisions for scalable and maintainable systems.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in software development with strong proficiency in C# , WPF , .NET, and Windows-based applications.
- Solid understanding of industrial automation , motion control , and real-time systems .
- Experience of IPC technologies and techniques (e.g. DDS , MQTT , ZeroMQ , RabbitMQ , NamedPipes , etc.).
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented design , design patterns , and SOLID principles .
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced semiconductor environment.
Preferred
- Experience with semiconductor inspection tools , metrology systems , and image analysis algorithms .
- Knowledge of SCADA systems , HMI development , and industrial IoT .
- Knowledge of Python , C++ , and other languages.
- Networking and Network Topology (TCP/IP, routing etc.).
- Understanding of cleanroom protocols and safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508).
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Benefits & conditions
- £52,000-65,000 (depending on experience)
- In addition to a competitive salary and an annual bonus. Infinitesima offers flexible working hours, hybrid working, 25 days annual leave, death in service and private health care benefits, personal pension contributions of 4% with salary sacrifice and a generous EMI Share scheme.
About the company
Infinitesima was spun out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has been developing innovative metrology solutions which improve speed and precision in the manufacture of semiconductors. The company's technology combines the 3-dimensional surface detection capability of atomic force microscopy (AFM), with high-speed laser activation and the accuracy of interferometry. The Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM ) is protected by an extensive patent portfolio. The company's RPM technology is being used by leading semiconductor equipment companies globally. Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices.
