Job description
As a Data Scientist on Expedia's Search Engine Marketing team, you will support the growth marketing organization to execute on initiatives, whether through data or implementing business processes. It's essential for you to be comfortable working with complex data and be able to effectively communicate actionable findings. You must be willing to go deep, navigate through ambiguity, and work in an environment where you partner with marketing managers, product teams, and technical partners to optimize SEM performance, scale innovation, and support strategic initiatives across global markets. Your search engine marketing knowledge, business acumen, and analytical skills will be put to the test as we bring on new initiatives and optimize existing marketing initiatives.
Key responsibilities include owning data and reporting pipelines, analysis, and charting out the vision of the path forward. Managing a multi-million-dollar portfolio, you'll help shape the future of growth marketing through experimentation, automation, and AI-first approaches, including the application of Generative AI to enhance campaign relevance and scale personalization. Working with partners, marketing managers and internal teams, data scientists ensure data integrity and develop actionable reporting and recommendations. This role will rotate across various channels and perspectives of our business, providing you with broad exposure to Expedia Group and the fundamentals of analytics, product, and marketing.
In this role, you will:
- Design and execute robust testing frameworks (e.g., ad copy, coverage experiments), including setup, binning, and deep-dive analysis to inform strategy and improve performance
- Enhance testing velocity and workflow efficiency through automation and contributions to platforms like Marketlab
- Conduct competitive intelligence using external and internal data sources to identify market opportunities and inform SEM strategy
- Drive smarter data-driven actionable insights on how to optimize business and be comfortable doing teardowns to rethink business executions
- Embed AI-driven methodologies across SEM workflows from asset generation to optimization strategies to enhance campaign performance, accelerate innovation, and scale personalization across markets.
- Analyze the impact of key channel initiatives and provide actionable recommendations to leadership
- Communicate cross functionally (internally and externally) to design, implement, and enhance marketing products and campaigns
Requirements
- 3+ years of relevant work experience, Bachelor's degree (or equivalent related professional experience)
- Search Engine experience in managing campaigns across Google, Bing, Yahoo, Naver, a plus
- Strong desire to understand online, offline, and mobile marketing from campaign execution to supporting infrastructure
- Demonstrated proficiency in Generative AI applications within marketing is essential, with a strong understanding of how to apply AI-driven solutions to optimize campaign performance and workflow automation
- Demonstrated experience in AB testing, modelling, analysis and research and coding
- Must be able to code in SQL, advanced excel know-how, and familiarity with Python
- Results-driven, possesses operational mindset with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Collaborates cross functionally with strong communication skills to embrace and champion change
Benefits & conditions
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156, Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
