Job description
Do you have the experience to support and develop infrastructure services including server, storage or virtualisation platforms? Are you confident with Windows Server administration and understand Windows security and compliance frameworks? If yes, then this full-time post may be ideal., The University of Kent, IT Services is seeking an IT Platforms Engineer in Windows who will lead the design, development, and operation of the core Windows IT infrastructure, related systems and services. This includes data centres, networks, and infrastructure platforms across all campuses. You will take responsibility for selecting technologies, architecting solutions, and integrating systems across the university's IT infrastructure.
You will deliver and operate secure, resilient, performant Windows infrastructure services that align with institutional objectives, working within the IT Platforms team to maintain operational excellence while leading technical development.
As an IT Platforms Engineer in Windows, you can expect to be involved in:
- Leading the design, implementation, and administration of Windows systems across on-premises data centres, cloud, and virtualized environments
- Supporting and optimising Active Directory and related authentication systems
- Providing expert-level advice on Windows system design, integration, security practices, and technology selection, with strong knowledge of Windows (AD/Entra) integration
- Overseeing data centre operations including server hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance activities
Requirements
- Degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in managing Windows Server operating systems
- Strong experience supporting and developing infrastructure services including server, storage, or virtualisation platforms
- Ability to manage Windows Server Infrastructure across virtual, physical and cloud environments (A, I)
- Understanding of Windows security and compliance frameworks (I)
