Job description

This is a key role reporting to the Regulatory Operational Performance Manager within Environmental Services. It is a vital regulatory and performance-focused position within a technical team supporting Wastewater and Water Services. You will assist Field Operations in the delivery of environmental regulatory reporting and support several other key performance metrics. You will be part of the Pollution Taskforce Team within Environmental Services and will be responsible for overseeing regulatory processes, performance management, and the delivery of all outputs related to Wastewater and Water.

You will collaborate with other teams within Environmental Services to ensure a cohesive approach to environmental management. The role will also involve liaising with external organisations such as the Environment Agency, Ofwat, and other relevant bodies. It is essential to work closely and cooperatively with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders, fostering strong relationships with Operational Network and Treatment Managers and their teams.

The role requires balancing reactive tasks and ad-hoc information requests with longer-term, proactive projects. Additionally, you will need to develop your knowledge continuously, stay informed of changes in the regulatory landscape, and lead initiatives to improve performance. The ability to adapt quickly and respond effectively to regulatory developments or issues, preventing escalation, will be crucial.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Technical assessment of operational regulatory compliance, in relation to internal and external measures.
  • Provide support to Technical Analysts to ensure they are performing and receiving appropriate guidance.
  • Completion of regulatory returns that are reliable accurate and complete, and meeting regulatory requirements / timescales.
  • Support improvement initiatives and champion new ways of working
  • Accountable for the delivery of actions relating to regional regulatory operational performance.
  • Provide input to briefing packs on operational best practice and regulatory operational performance and, where appropriate, deliver these briefings to the operational field teams.
  • Offer technical support and advice to Operational Field teams as and when required.
  • Support provision of supporting documentation for business planning, price review etc.

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiarity with environmental regulation
  • Network / Treatment operational knowledge
  • An understanding of Water and Wastewater ODI's and Measures of success
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office applications, with particular strength in MS Excel.
  • Ability to interpret data and make appropriate quality checks
