Job description
Embedded Software Manager at Deep Sea Electronics Ltd. The role is located in Hunmanby or Mansfield and focuses on line managing a subset of the engineering team for new product developments and maintenance of existing products., * Line management of a segment of DSE engineering team across North Yorkshire and Sutton in Ashfield sites with remote/hybrid working.
- Day-to-day task management, 1:1 appraisal, goal setting, personal development plans, holiday approval, sickness review.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to review technical content of projects, define/estimate task durations, assist in project plan accuracy.
- Allocate engineering work tasks using JIRA or similar tools.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Review engineering work ensuring high standard of output.
- Support engineers with necessary skills, knowledge, tools; address gaps with engineering management.
- Provide product and project cost estimates, feasibility studies during project inception.
- Contribute to platform and architecture strategy as a technical decision maker.
- Assist in development of in-house tools and processes.
- Support the wider company by answering technical questions.
- Administer engineering systems, revision and variant control systems, issue management systems.
- Coordinate with other supervisors and managers to align on technology, processes, designs and testing.
- Review department KPIs to ensure target achievement.
- Where team size permits, work hands-on as an engineer.
- Identify and mitigate risks, especially functional safety levels.
- Communicate effectively with technical engineers.
Requirements
- Expertise in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Knowledge of Linux OS and application development, including Yocto.
- Understanding of power generation industry and/or control and automation solutions.
- Experience in product development and managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with software development life cycles, tools and processes.
- Experience with a functional safety standard such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or IEC 60730.
- Knowledge of cyber security principles and technologies for embedded systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability in work breakdown, task estimation and commitment to drive projects to completion.
- Experience with combined stage-gated (waterfall) / agile development approaches.
- Risk identification and mitigation techniques.
- Comfortable communicating with both technical engineers and management.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Enthusiastic and optimistic attitude.
- 7+ years as a senior engineer or team leader with direct reports.
- 7+ years as an embedded software engineer, with experience in RTOS and Linux projects.
- Background in electronics, potentially a degree education.
- Relevant bachelor's degree.
