Job description
We are looking for a full-time, permanent Lead Web Developer (all genders) to start as soon as possible. We live remote-first, but you have the freedom to choose whether you want to work hybrid or completely on-site due to your proximity to one of our locations (Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich).
Our website is far more than a digital business card - it is critical to the success of our company. It is the primary touchpoint for new customers, a central sales channel, an information hub, and a core part of our product and brand experience. That's exactly why we're looking for you.
As a Lead Web Developer, you take ownership of our web platform, its technical evolution, and the team behind it. You ensure performance, stability, scalability, and code quality are consistently high, and that new requirements are implemented in a clean, sustainable, and transparent way. This role is not about quick hacks, but about building solid solutions that hold up over time.
You work closely with Marketing, Product, Design, and other engineering teams, translating business requirements into technical concepts and making sustainable architectural decisions. You help bring structure and clarity to grown and complex setups, setting priorities and guiding technical direction. At the same time, you stay hands-on: you write code, review pull requests, define standards, and make sure technical debt doesn't quietly pile up. You also keep a close eye on the team and act as a mentor.
Ownership is a key part of this role. You think of the website as a product, define clear technical guardrails, and ensure that changes are rolled out in a controlled, measurable, and stable way. Small changes can have a big impact - which is exactly why this role requires someone who takes responsibility, assesses risks, and makes well-founded decisions.
In short: you make sure our website works reliably today, remains scalable tomorrow, and becomes a true growth driver for Contabo in the long term.
Requirements
Do you have experience in UX?, * Experience with agentic coding
- Hands-on experience with headless CMS solutions (e.g. PayloadCMS, Contentful)
- Strong understanding of Static Site Generation (SSG) and Server-Side Rendering (SSR), especially with Astro and SvelteKit
- Confident working with agile software development processes (Kanban, Scrum, or similar)
- Ability to take technical ownership and make well-founded architectural and technical decisions
- Very good command of both German and English, * Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI, Jenkins)
- Practical experience with container technologies such as Docker and ideally Kubernetes
- Mentoring experience or a strong interest in supporting others in their technical development, * Deeper understanding of web performance, SEO, and UX interdependencies
- Experience in fast-growing or product-centric web environments
- Knowledge of scalable web architectures or multi-site setups
