Job description
Silicon Photonics Integration Opportunities at imecImec stands at the forefront of integrated silicon photonics technology, driving breakthroughs in optical communications for telecom, datacom, AI computing, biomedical, and sensing applications. By leveraging advanced CMOS processes, we deliver highly specialized, low-volume niche devices that enable innovation across diverse fields. For more details, explore:We are happy to announce multiple openings for Integration Engineers at various seniority levels, from junior R&D engineers to expert-level Principal Member of Technical Staff, within two dynamic imec departments: Connectivity Pathfinding (COP) and Product Industrialization and Test (PID). These teams lead cutting-edge R&D and platform activities, including low-volume manufacturing and exploratory pathfinding for next-generation applications.Whether you're starting your career or bringing years of experience, you'll find opportunities to make an impact as an individual contributor and help shape the future of silicon photonics. What you will do
- Develop and implement innovative integration flows that extend the functionality of the silicon photonics platform.
- For the expert-level roles, act as a technical guide for integration strategy, steering projects from concept to demonstrator and ensuring alignment with imec's roadmap and customer requirements.
- Coordinate and streamline project execution by collaborating with colleagues in device design, characterization, process development, metrology, and defectivity teams.
- Define and drive design-of-experiments to enable technology development.
- Follow up on the processing of test material and device demonstrator lots, collect and analyse performance data, and report results to internal and external stakeholders, and the scientific community through publications and presentations.
- Represent imec in discussions with global semiconductor players, benchmarking solutions against the state of the art.
- Guide program managers, directors, and customers from a technical perspective to provide cost-effective, timely, and efficient development scenarios.
- Stay up to date with scientific developments and share knowledge through presentations, publications, and conferences.
Requirements
- You hold a Master's or PhD in science or engineering, preferably with a focus on semiconductor process technology and materials characterization.
- Experience in semiconductor processing or integration is essential; familiarity with silicon photonics and device engineering is a strong advantage.
- For expert-level roles, 7+ years of experience in semiconductor processing or integration is expected. You can interpret in-line, electrical, and optical test data and relate it to wafer fabrication processes.
- Skills in Design of Experiments, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision-making are highly valued.
- You are an enthusiastic team player with strong organizational and project management capabilities, able to complete tasks independently and on time.
- Excellent communication skills in English are required.
- Positions are based in Leuven, Belgium. You either live in Belgium or are willing to relocate (relocation support is provided).
