Job description

As Staff Product Engineer, Backend, you'll sit at the intersection of agentic frameworks, code sandboxes, and application architecture. You'll own the runtime layer, enabling AI engineers with deep software expertise , whilst evolving security strategies for executing unknown and unsafe code. Your focus will be on reliability, risk management, and fostering a security-first culture. You'll provide technical mentorship, define standards for code quality and observability, and act as a force multiplier by simplifying complex technical designs and collaborating closely with product teams.

Responsibilities

  • Master the runtime environment, understanding how agentic frameworks, code sandboxes, and application frameworks interact and evolve
  • Design and implement security strategies for safely executing untrusted code, balancing safety with developer experience
  • Identify and mitigate risks proactively, fostering a security-first mindset across the engineering team
  • Mentor engineers on debugging complex asynchronous issues and building observable systems
  • Define and maintain standards for code quality, testing practices, and observability across the backend
  • Review product requirements and technical designs, simplifying complexity and evaluating feasibility
  • Collaborate with product teams to assess resource efficiency and technical trade-offs
  • Contribute to architecture decisions that scale reliability and performance

Requirements

Do you have experience in Node.js?, * Deep, production-grade experience with Node.js, particularly for building agent cores and async systems

  • Strong proficiency in Go and the ability to debug complex interactions between languages
  • Proven expertise in observability, OpenTelemetry , and monitoring systems
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and improve team processes and psychological safety
  • Strong product thinking and economic judgment when evaluating technical decisions
  • Experience building secure systems or executing untrusted code in sandboxed environments
  • Track record of defining and elevating code quality standards within teams
  • Comfortable using AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development
  • Natural curiosity about AI frameworks and how they integrate with backend systems
