Job description

As a Lead Architect (hands on) - Risk Accumulation Management Platform you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the migration: Own the technical and delivery leadership for moving REDS database and ETLs from .NET/SQL to Databricks (Azure), ensuring continuity, backward compatibility, operational resilience, and measurable performance improvements.
  • Design the future-state data model: Define and evolve the REDS data model to support significant growth in data volume, complexity, and downstream use cases.
  • Deliver high-performance data pipelines: Build and oversee scalable, robust ETL/ELT pipelines for complex data flows, mandatory and compliance reporting, with strong monitoring, lineage, and recoverability.
  • Enable model and feature serving: Lead implementation and operationalisation of cat modelling and analytics models using Databricks Model Serving and Feature Serving/Feature Store patterns.
  • Build and lead the team: Hire, onboard, and develop a team of data engineers; set engineering standards, ways of working, and a sustainable delivery cadence.
  • Support cat modelling teams: Partner closely with GAM business stakeholders to translate cat modelling needs into performant data products, trusted datasets, and production-grade serving capabilities.
  • Run delivery with stakeholders: Translate business goals into requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans; align across risk, governance, architecture, and security.
  • Own quality and governance: Set and enforce data quality controls, reconciliation, and traceability; ensure documentation and audit-ready data flows.
  • Support transition operations: Where required, support the legacy platform during migration (requirements capture, workflow analysis, migration mapping, knowledge transfer), * SQL expert: Deep expertise in SQL (complex query design, optimisation, performance tuning, data reconciliation, and supporting analytical workloads).
  • Actuarial support experience: Track record supporting actuarial teams (data enablement for modelling, calibration workflows, repeatable data extracts/features, and testing).
  • Leadership + team build: Experience leading engineering teams and building a team (hiring, coaching, setting standards, and creating an effective engineering culture).
  • Modern data engineering: Strong experience with Databricks and cloud-native data engineering patterns.
  • Data modelling: Strong capability across conceptual/logical/physical modelling and designing data products for reporting and analytics at scale.
  • Delivery and collaboration: Proven ability to lead delivery in a matrixed organisation; strong stakeholder management; agile ways of working.
  • Fluent in English

Requirements

  • Experience with Databricks feature engineering/feature platforms and reusable feature patterns.
  • Exposure/risk accumulation domain knowledge, regulatory reporting, or internal risk frameworks.
  • Azure data services integration (ADF), CI/CD for data and ML, and production observability patterns.
