Job description
This Future Network Engagement Manager role is in the Network Architecture team in Network Design in National Grid Electricity Transmission. Network Architecture is responsible for the strategy, design, modelling and engagement on the future network 2050 vision. We design, develop and provoke thinking around what the future network should look like, by considering the current and future state of developments around us, such as CP2030, strategic planning, large loads etc. We outline the steps needed to achieve the future network vision and communicate this externally to engage key stakeholders and enable our senior leaders to be thought leaders on this topic. Internally, we collaborate with key teams across National Grid's Business Units to define who needs to be engaged and what they need to deliver to achieve this future vision.
What You'll Do
Strategic Stakeholder Engagement
- Drive a Stakeholder Strategy - Develop, implement and maintain a stakeholder engagement strategy to deliver the Future Network Vision, considering internal stakeholder goals, objectives and drivers.
- Capture Stakeholder Insights - Distil key messages from structured internal stakeholder engagement, managing feedback loops effectively, to inform the steps to achieve the Future Network Vision.
- Enable Stakeholder Decision Making - Scope, plan, design, develop and deliver internal workshops and structured stakeholder interviews across a programme to facilitate future network thinking and achieve buy-in.
- Manage Senior Leadership Thought Leadership - Manage and support the capture of Future Network engagements of the Network Design leadership team and support the wider exec engagement programme.
- Deliver an External Engagement Programme - Develop, plan, co-ordinate and deliver a programme of events with key industry stakeholders, including a curated conference programme, proactively scoping out opportunities to position National Grid as a leading voice in future network design and strategy.
- Drive Value from External Engagements - Ensure industry thought leadership translates to collaborative relationships and initiatives on Future Network Vision for the Network Design team and the wider business, monitoring and articulating the business benefit that stakeholder engagement drives.
Communications development
- Strategic Communications Planning - Collaborate and partner with NGET Corporate Affairs to curate a suite of strategic messaging on Future Network Vision and related network design topics.
- Messaging and Narrative Development - Co-ordinate across the organisation to translate complex engineering and design concepts into clear, actionable messages, lines to take and narratives for senior decision-makers.
- Deliver High-Quality Communications - Scope, plan and produce compelling written content (e.g. briefs, presentations) tailored to different internal and external audiences in line with Corporate Affairs guidance.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Develop Trust-Based Relationships - Identify, build and maintain key strategic internal stakeholder relationships, driving towards a collaborative view of the Future Network Vision and what it means for their teams.
- Anticipate Stakeholder Needs Effectively - Identify, engage and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, driving alignment and collaboration on identified opportunities.
- Monitor Internal Stakeholder Relationship Health - Manage the internal 'nerve centre' for future network thinking, monitoring relationship health, identifying where issues may arise and proactively mitigating them.
- Build Strategic Partnerships - Identify, engage and nurture relationships with organisations externally on future network vision and design topics, unlocking year-round opportunities for thought leadership and collaboration.
Requirements
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement or similar roles
- Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to turn stakeholder insights into impactful business decisions
- Strong consultation and facilitative skills to drive stakeholder insights
- Demonstrates the ability to manage and influence multiple stakeholder relationships, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics with a high degree of emotional intelligence
- Demonstrates the ability to lead and coach the wider team on stakeholder best practice and written communication outputs
- Demonstrates high levels of ownership and initiative, able to get involved in special projects and drive outcomes and deliverables
- Knowledge and ability to draw from an extensive stakeholder and project management toolkit
- Knowledge of the electricity industry, or transferable knowledge from other regulated utilities
- Knowledge and experience of leading change and driving best practice within a complex organisation
- Desirable but not essential -Knowledge and ability to use AI in delivering work
Benefits & conditions
A competitive salary of up to £68,000 - £72,000 (dependent capability and experience)
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
