Job description
Specify, design, implement and validate power electronics hardware to align with the company roadmap and to the required performance, schedule, budget and quality., As a Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
· Specifying power electronics systems or subsystems to enable the resulting hardware to be designed and validated as complying with requirements.
· Architecting and designing the hardware using modern development practices (including AI-assisted workflows where relevant) and company standard tools and processes to meet the requirements, including those related to electrical and thermal performance, EMC, safety and other aspects needing compliance.
· Implementing the schematic design and PCB layout.
· Ensuring that the design is manufacturable and meets the cost model for the system.
· Generating and verifying rapid prototypes to prove new concepts prior to committing to a full design.
· Thermal and electrical simulation of the key aspects of the design and confirming that it fits within the envelope of the overall system.
· Consideration for the mechanical aspects of the design and ensuring that it fits within the form-factor and meets the thermal requirements.
· Overseeing the prototype manufacturing process to ensure that third party partner production queries are quickly answered.
· Ensuring EMC and safety certification/compliance for the product, including the coordination of third party test houses where required.
Requirements
Personal Attributes
· Self-directed learner who stays current with emerging development tools and practices
· Pragmatic problem-solver who values shipping working solutions over perfect designs
· Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make progress with incomplete information
· Excited about leveraging AI tools to multiply productivity
· Reliable and flexible attitude
· Comfortable in a fast changing environment
· Proactive and positive approach to work
· Good communicator
· Strong attention to detail
· Values being part of a team driving for excellence in an exciting new design space.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
· Exceptional ability to decompose complex technical problems into clear, unambiguous specifications that can drive both human and AI-assisted development
· Strong technical writing skills - able to articulate system requirements, constraints, and edge cases with precision
· Experience translating business/engineering requirements into actionable technical specifications
· Strong grasp of system architecting including where to partition between PCB hardware, FPGA/ASIC and software.
· Extensive experience in power electronics design and RF design concepts.
· PCB schematic design and layout, accounting for high-speed and high-power circuit considerations.
· Simulation and modeling of complex electronics systems.
· Degree in Electronics Engineering or associated subject
· Ability to write clear and concise design and test specifications.
Specific Technical Skills
· PCB design tool experience including Altium.
· Power electronics modeling and simulation (electrical, magnetic, thermal and mechanical) using tools such as Dassault Systemes CST, Plexim PLECS and the Ansys suite.
· Mechanical design and 3D modeling experience (or knowledge) an advantage.
· Contributing to the generation of patent applications in support of protecting the company's IP.
· Strong knowledge of the applicability, setup and operation of lab test equipment for the debug and validation of hardware, both in the power electronics and digital domains.
What Makes You Stand Out
· You're excited about using modern development practices to maximise your productivity
· You can articulate complex technical problems clearly enough that an AI (or junior engineer) could assist in the implementation of them
· You understand that great hardware engineering in 2026 is as much about problem specification and validation as it is about implementation
· You enjoy working at the intersection of hardware and software, where clear thinking about interfaces and constraints is critical
