Job description
As an experienced Senior Systems Engineer, you will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.
The role is within the Group Electrical & Controls team which has responsibility to ensure that all new Product programmes and Current Product Maintenance meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.
Senior Systems Engineer Role:

Translate the 'voice of the customer' (internal and external) into a list of clear concise System/Software requirements and deliverables.

Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.

Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas.

Creation of ECU Network architectures to satisfy delivery of the requirements.

Creation of electrical system architectures down to component level.
-
Co-ordination of 3rd party support vendors with the creation of requirements and corresponding software architectures.

Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet).

Design vehicle electrical wiring systems where necessary, passing onto the EDS team for implementation.

Have a keen interest in monitoring the health and status of the system, via on board diagnostic protocols or over the air communications.

Work in line with industry standard development techniques i.e. V Model.

Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates.

Drive re-use of components and approaches.

Support of cause-and-effect analysis - risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.

Requirements

Qualified to HNC/HND level in an electronic/software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.

Willing to understand how things work, or how they can be improved.

Experience and understanding of hydraulic and electrical system integration.

PLC panel design and ladder logic experience is comparable to this industry.

Familiar with different requirements capturing tools i.e. IBM DOORS, JAMA.

Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols i.e. CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230.

Working knowledge of the engineering lifecycle V Model, specifically electrical systems.

Awareness of security impact to achieve secure and resilient systems (hardware and software)

Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques.

Functional test, fault insertion testing - on machine and or test rigs.

Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools i.e. Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies, Digital Volt Meters.

An ability to read and digest complex information relating to internal and external procedures and sign-off requirements.
