Job description
As a Microsoft 365 Email Specialist, you are the technical expert responsible for our email infrastructure within the Microsoft 365 environment. You will work in an informal, diverse Scrum team that manages the full M365 suite. Your focus is on Exchange Online and everything related to email: from delivery troubleshooting to Defender policies, and from PowerShell automation to advising other departments.
You won't be working alone - you will strengthen our current email specialist, and together you will form the organization's email expertise team. You will operate at 3rd-line support level, meaning complex email-related incidents are escalated to you. You work autonomously, while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization.
Your responsibilities
- Manage and configure Exchange Online in a large enterprise environment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex delivery and mail flow issues.
- Configure and maintain mailboxes, distribution groups, and Exchange policies.
- Implement and manage email security using Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (anti-spam, anti-phishing, malware protection).
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate daily administrative tasks and optimizations.
- Provide 3rd-line support for escalations from the service desk (via Freshworks).
- Collaborate with other departments on email-related needs and solutions.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and documentation within the team.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Software troubleshooting?, You have hands-on experience managing Exchange Online and the technical depth to go beyond standard configurations. You understand how email delivery works - from message tracing to Defender layers - and can independently diagnose and resolve mail flow and delivery issues.
Must-haves
- Mid-level experience with Exchange Online management and configuration.
- In-depth knowledge of email delivery troubleshooting and mail flow (message trace, NDRs, connectors, transport rules, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (anti-spam policies, anti-phishing, threat protection).
- Knowledge of email security fundamentals: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and how they function.
- PowerShell scripting experience - you have written scripts and are eager to further develop your skills.
- Affinity with 3rd-line support and complex troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills in Dutch and English - able to clearly explain technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
- Knowledge of Compliance & eDiscovery within M365.
- Experience with hybrid Exchange environments (on-premises/cloud).
- Relevant Microsoft certifications.
- Experience with Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Freshworks.
