Senior IT Engineer

As a Senior IT Engineer, you will operate across support, infrastructure, and project work, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with best practices.

You will:

• Act as a 3rd line escalation point for complex technical issues
• Lead and deliver infrastructure and cloud projects
• Maintain and optimise Microsoft 365 and server environments
• Work closely with clients to design and implement technical solutions
• Support and mentor junior engineers
• Identify opportunities for automation, improvement, and standardisation

This role combines hands-on technical work with ownership and influence over how systems are designed and supported.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across desktop, server, and network environments

• Design and implement solutions across Microsoft 365, cloud, and on-prem infrastructure

• Manage and maintain:

• Windows Server environments

• Active Directory and Entra ID

• Microsoft 365 services (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Intune)

Support virtualised environments (Hyper-V / VMware)

Monitor systems, backups, and security alerts

Deliver infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and deployments

Maintain clear technical documentation

Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and systems

We are looking for a highly capable Senior IT Engineer to join a well established IT consultancy, taking ownership of complex technical issues, infrastructure improvements, and project delivery across a diverse client environment.

This role is suited to someone with strong 3rd line experience, a proactive mindset, and a passion for modernising IT systems across both on-premise and cloud platforms.

You will play a key role in maintaining stability, driving improvements, and acting as a senior escalation point within the team., Core Skills

• Strong experience in a 3rd line or senior IT support role
• Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Entra ID)
• Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy
• Virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware)
• Networking fundamentals (VPNs, firewalls, switching)
• Backup and disaster recovery solutions

Desirable

• Experience in an MSP or multi-client environment
• Exposure to security standards (e.g. Cyber Essentials)
• PowerShell or scripting experience
• VoIP / telephony systems
