Job description

Charity People are delighted to be partnering with Seashell Trust to recruit a Data Officer in a brand new role for the organisation. The Data Officer will work closely with the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Team to improve the organisations database and processes, enabling the organisation to communicate better with supporters and fundraise more effectively.

Seashell Trust is a wonderful organisation dedicated to providing a creative, happy and secure environment for children and young people with complex needs and additional communication challenges from across the UK. They deliver individually tailored support services that promote independence and build confidence through education programmes in schools and a specialist college, and through residential care provided for children in Seashell's care homes.

About the role

This role is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with expertise and skills in utilising data to ensure maximum effectiveness of a process. The organisation's dream candidate would have experience gained in the charity sector using Raiser's Edge, but this isn't essential, and this is an excellent opportunity for a data whizz to transfer their skills to an organisation doing great work.

You will be responsible for:

  • Responsibility for maintaining and administering the organisation's database which is Raiser's Edge, with a particular focus on how the data and database can support fundraising as effectively as possible
  • Leading on data suppression and data cleansing
  • Delivering data selections for fundraising and marketing activities
  • Developing and maintaining supporter journeys
  • Developing and improve existing data processes. A part of this will be looking at how to improve data integration and sharing from different databases around Seashell
  • Writing and maintaining guidelines, providing support and training staff in how to use our database
  • Ensuring all data processes and selections are compliant with GDPR and other fundraising regulations
  • Active participation in the Seashell Management Information Community of Practice to ensure coordination of information management across Seashell
  • Risk management including supporting colleagues and leadership team with potential risks
  • Responsible for improving the current Raisers Edge database, by improving processes and making sure information is up to date
  • Responsible for improving audience data segmentation to improve Seashell's Fundraising, Marketing and Communication goals

Requirements

We'd love to see applications from individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • Database experience and experience in data analysis
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment and an understanding of the data compliance requirements this entails
  • Experience in data collection, cleansing, manipulation, and analysis techniques.
  • Experience of exploring and experimenting with new tools, techniques, and methodologies to enhance data analysis capabilities and deliver more impactful insights.
  • Knowledge of information governance and fundraising regulations for example, data protection, cyber security and GDPR.
  • Familiarity with data querying languages and database systems.
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong critical thinking skills
