Job description
ACRO Criminal Records Office seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Protection Manager to provide expert national support and guidance to all UK police forces. This is a unique opportunity to work at a national level, shaping best practice, ensuring compliance with legislation, and helping the police service reduce risk, improve information handling, and meet statutory obligations.
You will play a key role in delivering and maintaining the National Data Protection Training Programme, promoting excellence in data protection across policing and supporting forces to prevent breaches and reduce the risk of ICO regulatory action., In this role, you will:
- Manage and respond to subject access requests made to the NPCC under the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Promote Data Protection awareness across the NPCC through training, guidance, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain specialist knowledge of:
- Data Protection Act 2018
- Freedom of Information Act 2000
- Management of Police Information (MoPI) Code of Practice
- Legislative frameworks governing information retention, disclosure, and sharing
- Provide expert technical advice on GDPR, DPA 2018, and policing-related information governance issues.
- Develop, manage, and deliver national data protection training across the police service, ensuring continuous improvement and high quality.
- Provide national-level support and advice to police Data Protection teams at all levels.
- Attend internal and external meetings with partner agencies, ensuring consistency and representing the NPCC Data & Analytics Board.
- Prepare reports and present issues to NPCC senior leadership and the National DP and FOI Portfolio Group.
- Act as the Information Management lead within NPFDU (with oversight from the Information Asset Owner).
- Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the grade and role.
Additional Requirements
- Follow GDPR, DPA, and all constabulary policies for accessing and handling personal data.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation, national policy, and procedural guidance.
- Be aware of health and safety considerations relating to the role.
- May be required to undertake fire warden responsibilities.
- Must be able to travel nationally when required, including overnight stays.
Requirements
This is an exciting and influential role within a specialist national unit, ideal for someone with strong legislative knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for improving standards in information governance across policing., * Educated to Level 6 OR able to demonstrate equivalent work experience.
- Nationally recognised training and development qualification.
- Substantial knowledge of:
- Data Protection law
- Human Rights legislation
- Associated regulatory frameworks
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to influence senior leaders and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience in delivering training or presentations.
Benefits & conditions
This is an initial 6-month contract with potential to be extended and will be based in their Whitley/Fareham office, the role has an hourly rate of £24.39 + holiday and benefits and the successful candidate will need to undergo the relevant vetting/clearance once offered.
