Job description
You will be responsible for creating a roadmap for timely replacement and expansion to stay ahead of increasing demand. You are able to look far ahead to properly incorporate developments in technology into our data center design. Together with your IT colleagues, you make a good plan for the selection of new hardware to be used that meets our requirements so that outdated hardware can be replaced in a timely manner.
As a backup & restore specialist, you are primarily responsible for securing, restoring and optimizing all business data within our enterprise environment. You manage a fully redundant backup platform based on VEEAM, spread over two private data centers. You ensure that our data is always available, protected and compliant, even in the most critical situations. You have a great sense of security, because our data must be protected to the maximum and must be recoverable even in the most extreme situations (hacking attacks, natural disasters, data center down).
You will work closely with users, Security and IT teams to ensure the continuity of our business processes. With your experience, you know how to identify risks at an early stage and implement improvements in processes, tooling and architecture.
You create IT infrastructure designs that allow the team to offer Infrastructure-as-a-Service to its users. You think about ways to automate the service provision and management where possible and you analyze existing vulnerabilities in order to solve them as quickly as possible where necessary. Together with our suppliers, you will look at which hardware we use and which firmware versions are needed to ensure mutual compatibility, stability and security. You are also adept at creating cases with our suppliers, you can quickly find and deliver the necessary information and you know how to put pressure where necessary. You give direction to our suppliers with your vision on the use of our infrastructure. The work is very diverse: both management and development and both tactical and operational.
Your team
We are the Multidisciplinary Team Datacenter Management & Storage Services. With 10 employees, we are responsible for setting up and managing our data centers, installing and managing rackmount servers, storage environments and managing the backup infrastructure.
As a team, we have a very wide range of responsibilities:
- regular management such as incident handling, troubleshooting, monitoring and maintenance;
- setting up, securing, patching, upgrading and migrating server and storage hardware;
- automating tasks and activities;
- continuously innovating the solutions offered;
- providing consultancy and advice.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Ubuntu?, * a HBO working and thinking level;
- knowledge and experience with VEEAM in an enterprise environment. Possess the relevant VEEAM certification or be willing to obtain it;
- experience in creating scripts in Powershell and Python;
- experience with Linux (Ubuntu / Rocky);
- experience in the field of server and storage products;
- knowledge of and experience with the use of IT hardware in your own data center;
- knowledge of network and SAN concepts;
- knowledge of data resiliency concepts and security guidelines;
- a good command of Dutch and English;
- skill in drafting and maintaining technical documentation.

You will work here
Our IT teams work according to agile principles. Collaboration, communication, transparency and continuous feedback are essential. The work mainly takes place during office hours and from a beautiful and modern working environment on our green and lively campus in Wageningen, but where necessary you will also be asked to participate in maintenance outside office hours (in the evening or at weekends). In addition, you and your colleagues are on standby 7x24 for security incidents according to an agreed schedule (maximum one week per month). In consultation, you can also work from home part of the time, for good focus and a healthy work-life balance.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 3,399 and € 5,478 for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10).
For this role, an appointment of 32 hours is negotiable. We offer you a one-year contract with the intention of converting it into a permanent contract. We are happy to help you if you have any questions about this.
