Job description

Join a Cambridge-based engineering business developing precision instruments that combine sensors, electronics, thermal systems, firmware, and mechanical assemblies for demanding environments. You'll work across the full development cycle, from concept and modelling to integration, testing, and deployment. What you'll be doing:

  • Integrate electronics, sensors, firmware, thermal, and mechanical subsystems into robust instruments.
  • Define and manage electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software interfaces.
  • Plan and execute system integration tests, troubleshoot issues, and validate performance.
  • Design experiments to characterise system behaviour under temperature, vibration, or pressure changes.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to ensure subsystem performance meets system-level requirements.
  • Analyse data and guide iterative design improvements.

Requirements

  • Control systems and system dynamics
  • Electronics and instrumentation
  • Thermal systems and stabilisation
  • Mechanical integration and packaging
  • Data analysis (Python)
  • Experimental design and testing

What we're looking for:

  • Degree in Physics, Electrical, Mechanical, Control, or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with complex, multidisciplinary systems and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of feedback control and dynamic system behaviour.
  • Ability to move between modelling, experimentation, and practical engineering.
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable working across disciplines.

Nice to have: Embedded systems, firmware, or sensor interface experience. Background in aerospace, robotics, defence sensing, or multidisciplinary consultancy
